Officials: Pittsburgh bridge not bad enough at recent inspection to require closure

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — PennDOT says the bridge that collapsed in Pittsburgh last week hours before President Joe Biden's visit showed deterioration during a September inspection. However, they say, it was not bad enough to require the bridge to be closed.

A PennDOT spokesperson says the agency won't release the full inspection report, because of state and federal laws and the ongoing investigation.

Five cars and a municipal bus were sent into a ravine when the Forbes Avenue bridge over Fern Hollow Creek in Frick Park collapsed early Friday.

A team from the National Transportation Safety Board is working to lift vehicles out.

No one died in the collapse.
