Since its debut in 2011, New York City’s Governors Ball Music Festival -- AKA Gov Ball -- has wowed music fans all over with diverse line-ups and 2023 will be no different. While the music is sure to impress, the festival is also looking forward to wowing festival-goers with a new venue.

“We’re really just going to take it to a whole new level,” Gov Ball founder, Tom Russell told Audacy’s Mike Adam of the 2023 festival, scheduled to take place at a new venue, Flushing Meadows in Queens, June 9-11.
“We have three stages this year, 60+ bands, [headliners] Kendrick Lamar, Odesza, Lizzo [and] so many others,” Russell continued. “To be able to bring incredible live music and art and decor and put it in this lush, green space that is so iconic, but so underserved, is so special… When you put incredible art, and incredible talent in an incredible venue that’s where you get the memories that last forever.”
The festival has had its fair share of homes in the past, but Russell says they all led to his dream venue of Flushing Meadows, which has been the goal for many years.
“I would say you’re not a true New Yorker unless you’ve moved multiple times,” he laughed. “As true New Yorkers, Gov Ball has moved multiple times starting with Governor’s Island to Randall’s Island then to Citi Field, but the one thing that we always wanted that we never had was that huge urban park that was easily accessible.”
With the dream location, 66 artists, delicious eats and more, Russell is more excited than ever to share Gov Ball with attendees.
