Nu Metal, made popular in the late 90s with the emergence of bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, and more by bringing fresh a new edge to the Heavy Metal genre while incorporating elements of Hip Hop, Alt-Rock, Punk, Industrial, and more, has been seeing a new breed of fans gravitating toward the music in recent years.

While the genre was still going strong throughout the 2000s helped by groups like the diamond-certified Linkin Park, as well as Evanescence, Disturbed, Staind, Papa Roach, and countless others, by the middle of the decade it had been experiencing a decline. The 2010s however ushered in another class of artists, like Grimes, BABYMETAL, Poppy, and more infusing electronic, metal, hardcore, noisecore, and more into their own unique, pop-centric sounds.
It should be noted that while many bands have come and gone over the years, many have also stood the test of time, still putting out new music into 2023 and beyond. Korn is celebrating 30 years with live dates, Staind just dropped a new release, Limp Bizkit certainly "Still Suck," Linkin Park's Meteora is celebrating a milestone with unreleased music, and Slipknot continues to melt faces with their live roadshows and new offerings. According to Google Trends, right now, Nu Metal is at its most popular after close to 20 years.
The Twitter account 'Crazy Ass Moments in Nu Metal History' has offered up some data showing just this, and is encouraging fans to keep the momentum going by following “anything” Nu Metal in 2023. They even provided a handy list to get everyone started.
"We have a chance to make this moment something that lasts. Follow them, add their album, listen," the account implores. "We can do this."
