Day four brings more emotion from the witness stand at the trial of Derek Chauvin, charged with murder in the death of George Floyd.
First on the stand this morning, Courtney Ross who was George Floyd's girlfriend and was asked by prosecutors about their relationship and Floyd's struggle with drug addiction, a struggle they both shared.
"It's a classic story of how many people get addicted to opioids. We both suffered from chronic pain. Mine was in my neck and his was in his back. We both have prescriptions, but after prescriptions that were filled and, we got addicted."
Defense attorneys have said that they plan to show that Floyd's cause of death was drugs and high blood pressure.
Yesterday, a lawyer for Floyd’s friend and passenger that night of his death Maurice Hall said if his client is called to testify he will plead the 5th to avoid self-incrimination. This morning, Ross testified that she and Floyd would occasionally buy drugs from Hall.
A store clerk also testified yesterday that Hall may have tried to pass a counterfeit bill earlier that day on May 25 of 2020.
