(SportsRadio 610) - Astros slugger and American League MVP candidate Yordan Alvarez was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right hand inflammation.

To take his place on the roster, the Astros recalled outfielder Jose Siri from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Alvarez, who is slashing .306/.405/.653 this season, leads baseball with a 1.058 OPS, and his 26 home runs rank third in MLB. He also leads baseball in weighted runs created-plus, which quantifies run creation and accounts for different ballparks' external factors.

Siri had spent most of the season with the Astros' big league ballclub, platooning in center field with Chas McCormick. But Siri was sent down to Triple-A after Jake Meyers reentered Houston's lineup.
