Hannah McNair: Texans 'not a racist organization'

(SportsRadio 610) - Cal and Hannah McNair spent nearly an hour at the SportsRadio 610 studios Friday discussing everything from the team’s head coach search, the rebrand and general manager Nick Caserio’s performance.

The Texans’ CEO also wanted to clarify myths about the organization.

There has been a perception, after the Texans fired Black coaches in back-to-back years after each had just one year on the job, that the Texans have been unfair.

They were named in a lawsuit last year by coach Brian Flores pointing out the NFL’s shoddy record in hiring and firing minority head coaches.

Since Lovie Smith was fired earlier this week, the Texans have faced their share of criticism in the treatment of Black coaches.

So when Hannah McNair was asked about some of the biggest misconceptions about the organization, this is what she volunteered:

“This may be a little bit sensitive, but we’re not a racist organization. And I’m just putting that out there. We’re just not.

“I would say, from the start of this organization, Cal’s dad was very intentional with the fellow owners he brought in and you could see a very diverse group there.”

Cal McNair chimed in, saying the Texans are one of the more diverse organizations in the league, while both acknowledged there is always room for improvement.

“I challenge people that say that, take a closer look,” Cal McNair said. “Peel back the onion a little bit more, take a little time, look at who we are before you make that judgment.”
