(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans, coming off a disappointing week one outcome against the Colts that resulted in a 20-20 tie at NRG stadium, might be without their veteran starting center in Denver.

Justin Britt missed practice on Wednesday and again Thursday due to personal reasons.

Before fielding questions from reporters during his weekly availability, offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said he would not be answering questions in regard to Britt or his absences, saying only that head coach Lovie Smith would provide and update on Friday.

If Britt has to miss the game in Denver, it provides another set of challenges for an offensive line that made a number of mistakes against the Colts week one and had been working on fixing communication issues for which Britt shouldered the blame.

"If there is a communication error, it starts with me being the voice of the o-line, the guy who sets it all," Britt told reporters Monday.

Scott Quessenberry shared time with Jimmy Morrissey at center all preseason while Britt was a healthy scratch, yet neither has worked with the entire starting unit in games.

Creating a chemistry and a continuity amongst the line isn’t something that can easily be done in practice alone, it’s a culmination of things that grows with time spent playing together.

"I think continuity is super important on the o-line. I don’t know if having to play preseason games altogether for 10-20 plays a game will make it magically appear," Britt said. "I think that’s something you just kind of get throughout camp. It’s not like we don’t have it."

While Quessenberry hasn’t had reps since the preseason, he says he’s always ready when his number is called.

"I always prepare as a starter, always prepare like I’m going to play every snap of the game and be ready for the unexpected," Quessenberry said. "It’s just the next man up mentality, be prepared for everything the Broncos have on defense. They’re a good front, gotta go out there and play hard and get a W."
