(SportsRadio 610) - The latest candidates to meet with the Texans, who are in search for their eighth head coach in franchise history, were Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and Los Angeles Rams assistant head coach and tight ends coach Thomas Brown.
Evero, 42, has spent 15 years as a coach in the NFL working for five different organizations including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams before the Broncos.
While the Broncos had a tumultuous 5-12 season, it was not because the defense was subpar.
Evero just wrapped up his first season as a coordinator with his unit finishing eighth in total defense and tied for 14th in points allowed.
He’s received high praise from the Broncos, including interim head coach Jerry Rosburg, who called him "brilliant" and acknowledged his ability to communicate with players at an exceptionally high level.
Rosburg accepted the job once the organization fired Nathaniel Hackett in week 16 after a 4-11 mark.
Evero was originally tagged to take the team the rest of the way but turned the opportunity down. Speculation had been that Evero declined the job because of his close relationship with Hackett.
Evero has since interviewed for the Broncos head coaching job as they continue their search to fill the vacancy.
Meanwhile, Thomas Brown has held the title as assistant head coach the last two years with the Rams under head coach Sean McVay. He worked with tight ends this past season, but has never been a coordinator in the NFL.
Brown, 36, has worked primarily with running backs since his second year coaching at the University of Chattanooga in 2012. He was the University of Miami’s offensive coordinator from 2016-2018.
His name has become a regular on team's lists of candidates considered for head coach. Many think it’s only a matter of time before Brown is leading a team in the NFL.
Brown, a former standout running back at Georgia, was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round of the 2008 draft.
He’s already got a Super Bowl championship under his belt as the Rams' running backs coach during the 2021 season.
The Texans have already interviewed former Super Bowl winning coach Sean Payton, who is still under contract after stepping away from the team this past season. They also interviewed Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon and offensive coordinator Shane Steichen.
Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has also spoken with the Texans about the position.
San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans remains the biggest name among top candidates yet to interview with the Texans.
Ryans is expected to meet with the Texans on Friday, before his team hosts the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional round of the playoffs this Sunday.
