Why Seth Payne prefers Tyree Wilson over Will Anderson Jr. if Texans go defense at No. 2 overall

(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans have already met with Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson Jr., who some believe they could select No. 2 overall in this month's draft if they pass on an available quarterback.

It's an idea that's gained some steam, with longtime NFL insider Peter King floating it out there last week and other mock drafts sending Anderson to Houston.

Anderson is considered one of the best, if not the best overall prospect in this draft. He would immediately improve Houston's defense, but drafting him would also mean missing out on the opportunity to draft a quarterback at the top of the draft.

But on top of that, 10-year NFL veteran and original Texans defensive lineman Seth Payne isn't sure Anderson is even the best pass rushing prospect in this draft. He prefers Texas Tech's Tyree Wilson, as explained Tuesday morning on Payne & Pendergast.

"He doesn't look like an intuitive pass rusher, necessarily," Payne said of Anderson. "He looks like a guy who's really athletic and he can bully guys somewhat. And he can use his speed at times. But he doesn't look intuitive the way Tyree Wilson does. (Wilson) has a really good sense and feel for timing on when to throw a guy back, or when to throw across a guy's body, or when to bend his rush. He doesn't have awesome bend or anything. He's a little bit stiff, kind of like Jadeveon Clowney, not as stiff as Jadeveon Clowney. But he has a very good feel for the game. ... I feel like Tyree Wilson has more of that almost undefinable feel of the game than Will Anderson."
