Baker Mayfield does not sound like someone who expects to be playing in Cleveland next season.
Amid rumors of the Browns’ interest in Deshaun Watson, Mayfield penned a letter to the fans on social media Tuesday night, thanking the city in what sounded like a goodbye note.

“This is not a message with hidden meaning,” Mayfield wrote. “This is strictly to thank the city of Cleveland for embracing my family and me. We have made many memories and shared growing in this process through all the ups and downs.
“I have no clue what happens next, which is the meaning behind the silence I have had during the duration of this process.”
No deal had been made for Watson or any other quarterback at the time of Mayfield’s post, but the fact that the Browns met with Watson on Tuesday signals that they are indeed looking elsewhere for a quarterback.

Following the end of the 2021 season, one in which Mayfield struggled while playing through a handful of injuries, the Browns indicated that they wanted the former first overall pick back as their quarterback in 2022.
Whether or not the Browns land Watson, it appears Mayfield sees the writing on the wall and realizes his future is no longer in Cleveland.
Other quarterbacks the Browns could pursue include Jimmy Garoppolo from the San Francisco 49ers or Jameis Winston, who is a free agent.
