Funeral services held Monday for fallen Austin Police officer

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Law enforcement and members of the public gathered Monday to lay to rest an Austin Police officer killed in a crash last month.

Senior APD Officer Anthony “Tony” Martin was killed on September 23 near the intersection of State Highway 29 and RM 1869. He was on his department-issued motorcycle when the crash happened, and APD said he was on his way home from a night shift when the crash happened.

The day's events began with a procession at 7 a.m. from the Cook-Walden Funeral Home on North Lamar, along U.S. 183 and RM 620 to Hill Country Bible Church. Members of the public were welcomed to a public visitation and memorial service.

Martin was recognized with full law enforcement honors on the front lawn of the church, ahead of interment in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene on Tuesday.

He had been with APD for more than 16 years, joining the department in 2006 as a member of the 112th Cadet Class. Prior to that, he served in the Air Force

Martin is survived by his parents, wife, three children and one granddaughter.
