AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- One of the victims injured in a mass shooting along Sixth Street early Saturday morning has died, officials said Sunday.
Austin Police confirmed Sunday afternoon that 25-year old Douglas John Kantor died from his injuries at a local hospital. Kantor was one of 14 people injured in the melee just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of East Sixth Street.
Interim police chief Joseph Chacon had said Saturday that at least one other victim was in critical condition following the shooting on Saturday.
Family members said Kantor was originally from Airmont, New York, and had been living in Michigan after graduating from Michigan State University. He had gone to work for the Ford Motor Company, and had continued his education at the University of Michigan, earning a Masters degree in business.
"He was loved by all who knew him and had an infectious smile that would light up any room," a statement from the family said. "He was loved by his family, friends and everyone who met him. This senseless tragedy has put an end to all his dreams."
Police confirmed Sunday that a juvenile male suspect had been taken into custody, with the search for a second suspect ongoing. It's not clear what charges either suspect may face in the incident.
Anyone with information or video of the incident is urged to call the APD Homicide tip line at 512-974-TIPS.
