A very controversial thought to even broach, but BMitch & Finlay did it on Tuesday: given that we now know Dan Snyder will officially be gone soon, how much do the results of the Mary Jo White report matter anymore to the average Commanders fan?
That question is not to slight those who were wronged by Snyder, and whose testimonies in the investigations led to whatever the results will be. But, when Don Van Natta was on The Sports Junkies Monday, he talked about how Snyder would love to see the results minimized the same way the Beth Wilkinson report was years ago, and how the NFL may have had that leverage against him to help facilitate the sale of the team.
So, to the average fan, does it even matter what’s in there now that Snyder is gone?
“I think a lot of fans don’t care because he sold the team, but all of the people who came out and spoke, and all the women who were wronged by Snyder, they care,” Mitchell said. “It doesn’t make a difference to some.
I really believe there are a lot of fans there who only care about him selling the team, but I have talked to people who want this to go to the end and see him get what he deserves.”
Here’s the thing with that: Mitchell believes that Snyder and the NFL know what Mary Jo White’s findings are, and just like Snyder agreed to step away from the team temporarily when the Wilkinson report was complete, he made the sale agreement announcement on Friday as a way to try to save face over what’s going to be in the White report.
“Let’s be real: the Mary Jo White thing is over, or damn near over, and he knows what’s in it, so he got out of it,” Mitchell said. “Based off what Don Van Natta said, he’s trying to save some face, like ‘just make it broad,’ because that makes him look okay. But these women, and Lisa Banks, they don’t want any broad stuff, they want to hear exactly what you found – because that $6.05 billion is going to be shortened by the money they go after in civil suits.”
Brian and JP then discussed the possibilities of civil and maybe even criminal lawsuits being brought against Snyder based on the findings, and how Snyder potentially moving overseas could complicate those potential litigations.
“I’m sure that if you did something here, and you move away to try to run from it…they’ll find a way to find you and bring you back here,” BMitch said bluntly. “Let me get away and make it tougher for people? I don’t think you can run away from this, if it comes out that there was an actual crime.”
