The Washington Commanders promised fans the opportunity to “set sail with Joe Theismann, Doug Williams and plenty more legends” on a seven-day Caribbean Cruise the last week of March.
Unfortunately, they seem to have hit an iceberg before even leaving the dock — the Commanders Fan Cruise is off, the team confirmed and as first reported by Thom Loverro of The Washington Times.

After noticing the link for the Fan Cruise website no longer worked – the announcement press release was also similarly scrubbed from the team's website – Loverro asked about the missing information and was told: “I asked around. Unfortunately, we don’t have any information as this time. There’s nothing I could be able to give you.”
After inquiring on Wednesday, a Commanders spokesperson emailed Loverro this statement: “Out of deep concern for our fans’ experience, we are in the process of canceling the fan cruise because of significant changes made by First Class Cruises to the original offering, including cruise line, destinations and dates.
“Our fans are our priority, and we are working to ensure we can reward those who signed up with a great experience with our alumni to thank them for their loyalty and commitment to our team and Legends.”
Commanders fans who put down deposits for the voyage will get their money back, a team spokesperson told Loverro.
This isn’t the first time First Class Cruises had an issue, as they had a rough voyage with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020.
And, per Loverro, the South Florida Better Business Bureau has two complaints against First Class Cruises LLC. and 37 against First class Vacations Inc.
According to the Washington Post's Nicki Jhabvala, the Miami Dolphins' fan cruise through First Class Cruises has had its dates changed, but the trip remains on.
Announced on Aug. 5, 2022, the team promised fans along with Theismann, Williams, Dexter Manley, Gary Clark, Jordan Reed and Santana Moss would depart from Miami for seven nights (March 25 - April 1) aboard the Harmony of the Seas for an "unforgettable team themed-events and celebrations."
“As an organization, it is important to us to provide Commanders fans with the best fan experience possible — whether that be at FedExField or across the Caribbean,” Ryan Moreland, then Commanders Chief Partnership Officer, said in the press release. “Having the best fans in football join dozens of players who have shaped the history of this organization in this unforgettable experience is central to our mission of seeking out exciting and impactful partnerships, and we thank First Class Cruises for helping to bring this unique experience to life for our fans.”
Moreland was right, the Commanders Fan Cruise was “unique” and an “experience.”
But just like many of the other Washington NFL team’s adventures, it ended up going nowhere.
