Danny Rouhier gives an impassioned plea for new owners re-branding the Commanders

Danny Rouhier closed out the final furlong of Friday’s Grant & Danny show mostly solo, with a little help from Friday’s Overtime host Lynnell Willingham – but before Lynnell got there, Danny had a chance to give a second long rant on the day, this time about John Feinstein’s idea to re-brand the Commanders.

Danny read the head of Feinstein’s recent Washington Post column about the idea, and as you know, he is 100 percent on board with a re-brand.

“Yes, 100 percent. I have said this for so long: the arguments against are basically it’s hard and it’s too many changes – but that’s not a good enough reason not to do something, in any walk of life,” Danny said. “And if you think it’s too soon? Eh, it’s a special circumstance. This is your first non-Snyder name, and we’re not changing the name again for decades."

That said, as much as Danny loves Feinstein…he “hated” Feinstein’s name ideas, one of which, as revealed on the Junkies, was “Monuments.”

Still, something has to change, as soon as possible.

“Whenever Josh Harris comes in and says ‘you guys wanted whatever, we’re going to be whatever’ – ta da, instant pop, insanity, crowd loves you, gear, merchandise, season tickets, make up for all the cost,” Danny said, before launching into falsetto railing against people’s possible complaints.

“But what if someone bought a jersey? Trade it in, get a new one; it’s 2023, it’s easy if you want to do it,” he said. “But it’s hard! Sure, it’s a challenge, but so is winning back the hundreds of thousands of people who have become disillusioned with this franchise! Do something that makes them happy.”

Danny isn’t sure if he’s in the majority, but unlike Grant Paulsen, who can separate the business from watching the team, there are many who can’t separate Dan Snyder from anything else.

“To me, the controllable stain removal from Dan Snyder’s ownership is such a no-brainer; I know it’s hard, God forbid you have to do some work, but you have a honeymoon period followed by the heaviest boulder and the highest hill here,” Danny said. “At some point people will start looking at their watch. You can get by on the “not Dan Snyder” bump for a while, but it’s not sustainable.”
