According to the Washington Post, the Commanders are pushing for the federal government to hand control of the RFK Stadium site over to the D.C.
government, which could clear the way for the franchise to build its new stadium at its old site.
It’s a move BMitch and Finlay were campaigning for on Tuesday, so they loved to hear the news as they opened Thursday’s show.
“I read that as good news,” Finlay said. “It’s important to note that this isn’t new. They’ve been trying this, and basically, Dan [Snyder] became so toxic that they had to stop for a while.
“That doesn’t mean there aren’t other hurdles…just because the locals get power from the feds, it doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen.”
One of those hurdles is DC council chairman Phil Mendelson, who prefers commercial retail and housing to be built in that area.
BMitch and Finlay’s reaction? Kindly stay out of the way.
“DC council chairman Phil Mendelson says he’s ready to support…but only on the condition that no future football stadium be built there. Hater,” Finlay said. “Give me a womp womp noise for this dude.
“That was a popular stance to take when Dan Snyder was the owner. Now that Dan Snyder won’t be owner, that won’t be popular, dude. We need my man Phil Mendelson to cut it out.”
