With the pending ownership change for the Commanders, one of the major talking points will be the future of a new stadium for the franchise.
JP Finlay says the best route would be to bring the team, and plenty of other events, back to RFK Stadium, and revitalizing the entire area, much like the Braves did around Truist Park in Atlanta.
“Try to make an honest go of this thing. Tell them, ‘We want RFK. We’ll commit to RFK. Here are our resources. We have a billion dollars. Do you have a billion dollars to match?’” Finlay said.
“I think there is gonna be so much good will when Dan [Snyder] is officially out and the Harris group rolls in, and Magic Johnson is signing autographs and taking pictures with babies. The amount of good will that is going to be available, trust that.
Ride that.”
RFK is scheduled to be demolished, but a project to revitalize the stadium, and the surrounding area, could make the stadium a draw not just for Commanders games, but other notable sporting events.
“You know what London has? A world-class stadium…that’s what we want to do here,” Finlay said. “We’ll get the World Cup, we’ll get the Olympics, we’ll get Wrestlemania, all of it. You know what that will bring? Jobs, money, something everything can be proud of.”
