While the 2021 NFL Free Agency period does not officially begin until Wednesday, March 17 at 4 p.m., teams can start making moves at noon ET on Monday as the league's legal tampering period begins.
All 32 NFL teams can begin meeting with free agents and start negotiating contracts with their agents during this period. However, any deal agreed to during this period and announced by the media can't be made official until the start of the free agency period. Players and teams can agree, but not sign on the dotted line just yet.
As the "unofficial" opening of free agency begins, we'll be tracking the Washington Football Team players who will not be returning to the team for the 2021 season.
Washington Football Team Departures in 2021 Free Agency:
WFT CB Ronald Darby signs with the Broncos
Washington is losing corner Ronald Darby to the Broncos on a three-year, $30 million deal with $19.5 million in guarantees, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Washington could potentially receive a compensatory pick, projected to be a fourth- or fifth-rounder, after losing Darby, per Nick Korte of Overthecap.com.
WFT LB Kevin Pierre-Louis signs with the Texans
Kevin Pierre-Louis is leaving Washington to join the Houston Texans on a two-year deal with up to $8 million, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Nick Sundberg, Ryan Kerrigan free to negotiate with other teams
For the first time in a decade, two Washington mainstays, long snapper Nick Sundberg and edge rusher Ryan Kerrigan, are now free to negotiate with other teams. Sundberg has been with Washington since 2010, and Kerrigan since 2011, when he was selected 16th by Washington. Two names to certainly keep a close eye on as free agency unfolds.
This article will be updated as new signings come in.
