Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith waited a long time for this moment.

In the 4th quarter Sunday against the New York Giants, Smith completed a pass to Terry McLaurin for a 68-yard touchdown pass.

It was his first TD toss since he suffered a brutal, life-threatening leg injury two years ago.

How long had it been since Smith found the end zone? 728 days to be exact.

Smith was in the game for Washington after starter Kyle Allen sustained a gruesome-looking ankle injury in the first quarter. This was the second time Smith replaced Allen this season.

In relief, Smith threw for 325 yards, his most in a Washington uniform.

Earlier this week, 106.7 The Fan’s Chris Russell noted Smith was impressing during practice. The veteran quarterback admitted he wasn’t certain what his future plans held and said he still loves the game.

“I love lacing up my cleats every single day. I love throwing the helmet on every single day. I’m having an amazing time,” Smith said. There’s a long time I didn’t think this was ever going to be remotely possible. I love going out there and competing and so for me, [it’s] about moving forward and getting better.”

However, Smith threw three interceptions on the day and Washington fell to New York 23-20.
