Ryan Poles: Bears 'checked into' a Maxx Crosby trade and are 'always going to monitor every situation'

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (104.3 The Score)  Star pass rusher Maxx Crosby remains with the Raiders after an eventful past week, and the Bears are monitoring his potential availability in a trade.

Last Friday, the Ravens agreed to a deal to acquire Crosby from the Raiders in exchange for a pair of first-round picks. That agreement fell through Tuesday after Crosby failed a physical with Baltimore, which was concerned about his ailing knee.

Prior to the Ravens-Raiders agreement, the Bears had been considered a suitor for Crosby. On Thursday, general manager Ryan Poles didn’t rule out a potential pursuit of Crosby, but he pointed to the need for the Bears to have caution while stressing their goal of sustained success.

“We’re always going to monitor every situation,” Poles said. “Sometimes it fits and it works with what you’ve got going on in terms of resources, sometimes it doesn’t. We’re involved. I mean, we checked into it. We looked to see if it made sense, had some dialogue, but I’ll just leave it at that.”

Crosby, 28, is a five-time Pro Bowl pass rusher with 69.5 career sacks. He  played in just 10 games in the 2025 before undergoing meniscus surgery.

The Raiders are still listening to offers on a trade for Crosby and there's still a market, according to reports, but Las Vegas’ brass seems intent on receiving a pair of first-round picks in the deal.

The Bears worked through the first wave of free agency this week without handing out a significant contract. However, they would need to do major financial maneuvering to take on Crosby’s contract, which comes with a cap hit of more than $27 million each of the next four seasons.

“We want to sustain success,” Poles said. “We’ve talked about that a lot. In order to do that, we have to be very calculated with the moves we make. So, when we were looking through different situations, we took that into account.”
