Sam Howell did “exactly what we expected him to do” in Monday night’s win over the Ravens, according to Ron Rivera, and the Junkies agreed – especially Eric Bickel, who is 'thrilled' with what he saw last night.

“The thing that jumped out at me, and we’ve seen this, is the poise; he looks the part, he has a strong arm, and the best part is the way he appears to see the field. He had a couple balls batted and took some sacks, he’s not perfect, but he goes through his progressions and he’s not afraid to rip it. I am thrilled with what we’ve seen with him.”

“My eyes saw a look of quick passing, which is what we heard, and that touchdown to Gibby is a Madden play,” JP laughed. “But I saw NextGen stats this morning, and on passes 10 or more yards downfield, he was 8-for-13 for 133 yards and the two touchdowns. He moves around the pocket good, and we know the line stinks, but he looked good.”

That said, JP admitted we have to be encouraged, but reminded the basic tenet that it’s preseason, and the Ravens had a QB who may not make the team playing with the ones on offense.

“I’m not citing stats, because my eyeballs also say Josh Johnson looked good,” EB said. “But the way it’s trending, he looks like our best quarterback since Kirk (Cousins). I’ll almost be willing to say that at this stage of his career, he looks like he’s ahead of where Kirk was. But he looks the part; it’s not too big for him.”
