The Washington Commanders quarterback competition has barely just begun with the completion of OTAs and minicamp. And while head coach Ron Rivera – and quite possibly more importantly – offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy will have the final say, the time ahead of training camp is when the players may start to make their feelings known.
Jahan Dotson, the Commanders first-round pick a season ago, was asked on Tuesday about the battle between fellow second-year man Sam Howell and veteran Jacoby Brissett and the young wide receiver has a preference.
When asked by Jim Rome about the tumult of playing with three different quarterbacks last season and if the situation was more settled this season, Dotson said, "I think we got our quarterback situation settled, I think Sam Howell is going to be our guy."
"I have complete faith in him," Dotson added. "He's a guy who I always say, makes throws look super effortless on the field, he's been a great leader. He's learning how to lead an NFL offense. He's just learning the ropes just as we are, you know, being in a new offense. So I'm super excited for him.
"You know, I can't wait to get out there and just make plays for him and make his life and his job easier, as easy as possible. So I can't wait for it."
During 12 games in 2022, Dotson was targeted 61 times and had 523 yards on 35 catches (14.9. yards per catch) with seven touchdowns. He had three catches and 72 yards from Howell passes in the Week 18 win over Dallas.
