Outkast is one of the most commercially successful and influential hip-hop artists of all-time. Composed of Antwan “Big Boi” Patton and Andre “Andre 3000″ Benjamin, Outkast was created back in 1992. In 1994, they released their debut album “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik,” and the single “Player’s Ball” reached No. 1 on the Billboard rap charts.
From there, Outkast continued to evolve, grow, and take the music industry by storm. Their next two albums “ATLiens” that dropped in 1996 and “Aquemini” that dropped in 1998 went double and triple platinum respectively.
OutKast has won six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” and Best Rap Album for “Stankonia.”
Each year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame picks nominees, and a voting panel that consists of over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals from all around the world cast their votes. In addition to these votes, fans also had the opportunity to vote, and by the looks of it, the ATL voted and was able to help secure Outkast a spot in the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class.
Everyone in the ATL knows how influential Outkast has been not just to our city, but to hip hop and music as a whole. This honor is more than just another award, but it cements them into the history books as one of the greatest musical acts of all time. In the words of Andre 3000, “The South’s got somethin’ to say," and thanks to Outkast, the world is hearing us loud and clear!
