CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Archdiocese of Chicago has announced the new name for a consolidated parish on the Northwest Side.
The Archdiocese said that on July 1, when St. Cornelius, St. Tarcissus, and St. Thecla Parish and School and Pope Francis Global Academy North Campus form a new parish at the current St. Tarcissus site, it’ll be known as St. Elizabeth of the Trinity.
Fr. Jason Malave is the Cardinal’s liaison for Renew My Church.
"There were members of each of the three parishes that met over the course of the past couple of months. And, they really put their feelers out there and they asked fellow parishioners about any possibilities for a new name," he said.
Fr. Malave said parishioners then voted and the top four names were sent to Cardinal Blase Cupich and the episcopal vicar of the area and the cardinal made the final decision.
Malave said St. Elizabeth of the Trinity was among the top two favored by parishioners. He said the other name among the top two was Early Christian Martyrs.
“The decision of a new parish name marks the first step in building a new and vibrant culture of community and identity as disciples of Christ,” Rev. Malave said.
The three current parishes will become St. Elizabeth of the Trinity on July 1, 2020.
Starting in the next academic year, the St. Techla School and Pope Francis Global Academy's North Campus will unite to become St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish School at the St. Tarcissus campus starting with the 2020/21 school year.
