CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The northern leg of Blue Line service was disrupted Tuesday evening after a passenger vehicle landed on the tracks and possibly collided with an outbound train near O'Hare International Airport.
Sara Giancola, 70, was driving a 2014 Ford SUV on westbound I-190 near Mannheim Road at 8:36 p.m. when she lost control and the vehicle rolled down an embankment, according to Illinois State Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The conductor of the train and two passengers – women ages 27 and 52 – were also taken to hospitals, according to state police. Their conditions were not immediately known.
The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. between the O'Hare and Rosemont train stations. Geoff Dankert of WBBM Newsradio came upon the scene and described the massive police and fire response.
Blue Line trains were halted at the Rosemont station until about 2:30 a.m., the CTA said.
Chicago Transit Authority spokesman Brian Steele said there was no significant damage to a train.
