(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago staple is celebrating a major milestone Tuesday by looking to the skies — and better days ahead.
It was May 12th, 1930 when the Adler Planetarium became the first institution of its kind in America to open its doors to the public.
To celebrate its 90th birthday, the planetarium is taking over the Science Friday’s YouTube channel for a night of solar viewing, photo collage displays and much more. “Throughout the decades, the goal of the Adler Planetarium has been connecting people to the sky,” Director of Public Observing Michelle Nichols said. “Under the sky we all share. It’s a great way to get people to realize that we all share the same sky, we all look up, we all wonder and question.” Nichols said the celebration had mostly been planned for the Internet, even before the pandemic turned things upside down.
The online feature gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
