CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 17-year-old north suburban resident, who's charged with murder for fatally shooting two people and wounded a third following a downtown Kenosha protest this week, will remain in custody in Illinois for another month.
A judge granted Friday a 30-day continuance in Kyle Rittenhouse's extradition proceedings during a brief status hearing.
Rittenhouse's public defender asked Judge Paul Novak for the delay as Rittenhouse’s family seeks a private attorney to represent him.
The complaint said Rosenbaum was shot and killed when, according to a witness, he grabbed for Rittenhouse’s gun as the teen was guarding a car lot. It was right after that, video shows Rittenhouse calling someone to say he had just shot someone. The two other victims were shot a couple of minutes later.
After the shootings, Rittenhouse walked towards and then was passed by police who had been heading to a report of shots fired.
