CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The police shooting of a CTA passenger Friday afternoon following a scuffle at a Red Line station occurred after the man was approached by officers for moving between train cars, officials said.
Mayor Lightfoot said she found the actions of the officers "deeply concerning," after video showing the confrontation surfaced on social media.
Official-channel details about the shooting, which left the passenger critically injured with gunshot wounds, came at a Friday evening news conference. It also came hours after the Lightfoot Administration announced increased police presence along CTA lines following a surge in crimes.
The shooting happened around 4 p.m. at the Grand subway station. Video posted to Twitter shows two officers struggling with a man before he slips free and shots are fired.
Deputy Police Supt. Barbara West told reporters the officers, on transit detail, were on a train with the man and observed him moving between train cars, which West said is in violation of a city ordinance.
The attempted arrest of this passenger and struggle occurred at the station. Both officers deployed Tasers, West said, and then one officer fired their weapon and struck the man twice. The injured man was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. He was stable after surgery, West said.
One of the officers involved in the scuffle was taken to Rush University Medical Center in good condition for non-shooting-related injuries, officials said.

February 28, 2020 Both officers involved in the shooting have been re-assigned to administrative duties as officials conduct criminal and administrative investigations, West said. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability has launched its own review. CPD said it has requested a response from the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, "due to the potential criminal nature of this incident."
West said she was aware of the social-media video, but noted other video related to the shooting had yet to be reviewed. West said she and Interim Police Supt. Charlie Beck had "significant questions" about the incident, but did not elaborate.
