1 dead, 2 injured in I-290 shooting, crash

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- One person was killed and two others were injured early Monday in a shooting and crash on the Eisenhower Expressway on Chicago's West Side, police said.

According to Illinois State Police, troopers were notified just after midnight of a possible shooting and crash in the westbound lanes of I-290 near the exit ramp to Damen Avenue.

Upon arrival, troopers located an unoccupied crashed vehicle in a lane of traffic on I-290 westbound at Ashland Avenue. A second crashed vehicle was located on I-290 westbound at Damen Avenue.

According to Illinois State Police, the driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene due to a gunshot wound.

Four additional victims were in the second vehicle. Two were transported to a local area hospital with injuries sustained from gunfire, the other two victims were uninjured.

State police closed the outbound lanes of I-290 at Ashland Avenue to Damen Avenue for the shooting’s investigation for several hours. Lanes reopened around 7:20 a.m Monday.
