CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An autopsy of a 12-year-old boy, who disappeared in Lake Michigan earlier this week, has confirmed he drowned near a Rogers Park neighborhood beach.

The boy, identified as Fred Elouga, of Rogers Park, went into the lake near the 1200 block of West Jarvis Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to authorities.

Chicago police said Fred was underwater for “an extended amount of time” before he was pulled ashore and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

He died the following afternoon.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the boy's death as accidental.
