(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A program created by two Kane County Judges is helping teenagers across Illinois understand the legal trouble they could get into if they use the Internet for bullying, sexting or other activities.

Judge Susan Clancy Boles says she and Kane County Chief Judge Clint Hull developed a “Worries of the World Wide Web” presentation in 2015.

Judge Hull says the program is geared toward middle school and highlights the social and legal consequences that could land young people in the courtroom.

This judges note some teens use the Internet to harass schoolmates. Others send racy pictures to each other or record fights. The justice system considers that evidence.

Boles said the program discusses sexting. She said it’s more common than people may think, and some teens see it as flirting.

Hull said teens need to know that sharing lewd pictures of people under the age of 18 could be considered child pornography.

Their educational program was adopted by the Illinois Judges Association, and now it’s statewide.

Judges Boles and Hull are the guests on this weekend’s edition of “At Issue,” which airs 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday on WBBM Newsradio.
