(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With the 10th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected Darnell Wright, a offensive lineman from Tennessee.
Wright, a West Virginia native, was named to the 2022 All-SEC football team.
Coming into draft night, Chicago was slated to draft ninth, but the team traded its No. 9 pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for this year’s No. 10 pick and a fourth round pick in 2024.
Although Bears reporter Mark Grote told WBBM the team has needs all over the roster, the offensive and defensive lines were two areas he identified as needing the most help.
The Bears ended the year with an NFL-worst 3-14 record. In March, General Manager Ryan Poles traded the first overall pick in the draft to Carolina, which the Panthers used to draft quarterback Bryce Young.
In return, the Bears received the No. 9 pick, wide receiver D.J. Moore and several other draft picks.
Poles and company will make two more selections in Round Two of the draft.
