Health officials reopen 3 COVID-19 mass vaccination sites in suburban Cook County

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Cook County has reopened the first of three mass vaccination sites Tuesday morning in a new push to get people to get their COVID-19 shots and booster.

The west suburban Forest Park mass vaccination site is now open with another opening Thursday in south suburban Matteson and the third opening Saturday in north suburban Des Plaines.

Starting next week, all three will be open from Tuesday through Sunday.

Dr. Greg Huhn, the COVID-19 vaccination coordinator for Cook County Health, said fewer than 40% of suburban Cook County residents have had their booster shot.

“Our goal is not to prevent every infection, but our goal is to prevent those severe complications. By getting that booster, then that puts you in a much better position where you’re going to really avoid those severe complications, particularly if you’re high risk that would put in a hospital or put you in an ICU or put you on a ventilator,” Huhn said.

The mass vaccination sites will be open to anyone who needs a vaccination, whether it’s their first shot or their booster. Appointments are suggested but the sites are open to walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Tuesday through Saturday we’re taking patients by appointment and also walk-in as a first-come, first served basis 8 o’clock to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and then on Sunday it’s 10 o’clock to 4 p.m.,” Huhn said.

The sites are scheduled to open over the course of the next week:

Forest Park: 7630 West Roosevelt Road

Matteson: 4647 Promenade Way

Des Plaines: 1155 East Oakton Street
