CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Three people, including a child, were seriously injured in a three-car crash on the South Side Monday afternoon.

Chicago police said a red SUV, driven by a 22-year-old man, was traveling west on 87th Street in Auburn Gresham a little after 3 p.m. when it ran a red light and struck the passenger side of a sedan driving north on Vincennes. The SUV then collided with a second car, hitting the passenger side bumper, before striking a light pole at 87th and Vincennes.

Two female passengers in the red SUV were transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition, police said. A 2-year-old boy also riding in the vehicle was critically injured. He remains at Comer Children’s Hospital.

Police took the 22-year-old driver into custody. A gun was recovered on the scene, police noted.

CPD’s Major Accidents Unit is investigating.
