CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Several movie theaters in the Chicago area are preparing to open their doors to the public once again, despite Illinois' coronavirus restrictions.
“The wait is finally over! Our doors open back up Friday afternoon!,” Marcus Elgin Cinema, located at 111 S. Randall Rd., posted on its Facebook page before listing what you may need to know prior to returning.
Joining Elgin Cinema in reopening is Marcus Addison Cinema, located at 1555 W. Lake St. in Addison, as well as Marcus’ Bloomington Cinema in downstate Bloomington.
The three movie theaters are all apart of a chain owned by the Milwaukee-based Marcus Theaters, which has theaters in 17 states across the country.
The move to reopen comes as all of Illinois’ 11 regions are in Tier 3 of the COVID-19 mitigation plan, which among other things prohibits movie theaters from conducting in-person screenings.
It is not known if the theaters are defying the Governor's order or if they are in regions of the state that will see a loosening of restrictions as early as Friday.
Once open, the theaters will give moviegoers the chance to see new films such as, “Wonder Woman 1984” and “The Croods: A New Age” on the big screen.
