CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Lincoln Park Zoo has revealed the names for its trio of 3-month-old, male lion cubs born.

The zoo worked with several Ilchokuti, or “lion guardians,” who are Maasai community members working in Tanzania alongside Lincoln Park Zoo’s partner, KopeLion, to name the lion cubs.

The cubs' names are Pesho, Sidai, and Lomelok —  which all have their own special meanings in the Maa language.

Pesho translates to an “unexpected gift.” Sidai means good, as in “good food” or “good lion” and Lomelok means “sweet.”

“These are more than little lion cubs,” said Vice President of Conservation and Science Sunny Nelson in a press release. “They represent hope for the future, a commitment to saving lions in the wild, and also the local communities who are doing this work every day.”

The zoo said the public can catch a look at the cubs this spring.
