(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Three people died Saturday night after a car and a motorcycle crashed head-on in Big Rock, Ill., officials with the Kane County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities said it happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. in a no passing zone along U.S. Route 30 near Davis Road.

Although the crash is still under investigation, the sheriff’s office said it appears that Jaime Bibiano, who was driving a gray Honda Civic westbound on U.S. Route 30, crossed into the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass the vehicle in front of him.

Meanwhile, two people from Elburn — Scott Luczynski, 56, and Kathleen Luczynski, 58 — were on a blue, 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the eastbound lane. As Bibiano attempted to make his pass, he crashed directly into the motorcycle.

Sheriff’s deputies said they found Kathleen Luczynski’s body shortly after 10 p.m. She was declared dead at the scene. Bibiano was found in his vehicle and was also declared dead at the scene. First responders took Scott Luczynski to Mercy Hospital in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead at 10:19 p.m.

Officials said it’s unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

Although traffic deaths in Illinois dipped slightly in 2022 compared to 2021, fatalities in the state have still remained higher than they were before the COVID-19 pandemic.
