CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Park District field house in Gage Park will become temporary migrant housing next month.
Alderman Raymond Lopez said the plan is to temporarily put 300 migrants in the field house.
"This center would operate under three main pillars," he explained. "It must be safe. It must be healthy and it must be temporary."
Lopez said the field house would take 300 single male migrants currently staying at police stations, which are the most difficult people to place.
He said the park would remain open and accessible to the public.
Residents can weigh in during a public meeting at 6:00 p.m. at Saint Clare De Montefalco Church on the 5400 block of South Wasthtenaw.
