DES PLAINES (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Five people are in custody after being arrested for a carjacking that happened Sunday in the northwest suburbs.
Des Plaines police said the five suspects were responsible for taking a luxury car from a 37-year old woman outside the Wyndham Hotel on Touhy Avenue. The carjacking happened before dawn Sunday morning. Police said two of the five carjackers threatened the woman with guns before taking her 2023 Mercedes Benz GLE53.
Unfortunately for the carjackers, the car was traceable and Des Plaines police notified Chicago police where it was. They found the vehicle on 85th and Sangamon in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood and also arrested the five suspects.
Des Plaines police said the alleged carjackers are also believed to be responsible for car burglaries in the parking lots of the Wyndham Hotel and a Comfort Inn not too far away on Touhy.
