West Pullman mass shooting: 1 woman killed, 5 wounded, including 15-year-old girl, off-duty firefighter

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Sadly, the weekend violence numbers in Chicago mirror those of past weekends. There were six people killed, and at least 57 others wounded in the city. That includes victims of a mass shooting Saturday night on the Far South Side.

Police are still looking for the person or people responsible for shooting six people just after 9:30 Saturday night in the West Pullman neighborhood. Those hit were heading for their cars after attending a family birthday party in the 300 block of East Kensington.

Schenia Smith, 42, of Dolton, was hit in the arm and armpit, and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Additionally, five people were wounded, including a 15-year-old girl and off-duty Chicago firefighter, Timothy Eiland, 32, who was shot in the face and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. Eiland remained in critical condition Sunday night, according to Chicago Fire Department Deputy District Chief Curtis Hudson.

His sister Elishama Wright told CBS 2, "We have no idea what or why they did what they did."

According to CBS 2, the 15-year-old girl, who was struck in the arm and transported in fair condition to Comer Children’s Hospital, is Wright's daughter.

“I saw blood all over her and she said she had been shot and she fainted, collapsed in my arms,” Wright told CBS 2.

Another man, 38, was struck in the stomach and was taken to the hospital in fair condition.

A third man, 22, suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and leg. He was taken to Roseland Hospital in fair condition, according to police.

A fourth man, 31, was grazed in the head and taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, where he was listed in fair condition, police said.

No one was in custody as of early Sunday. Area Two detectives continue to investigate.
