(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Brookfield Zoo will close for two months at the beginning of 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but not before its holiday light show, which ends Dec. 31.
Leah Rippe, the zoo's vice president of marketing and communications, on Thursday said zoo attendance is at its lowest during January and February.
COVID-19 restrictions and winter weather are also why the zoo is shutting down during those months, she said.
In the meantime, Brookfield Zoo is going ahead with its 39th annual Holiday Magic light show, which runs from Nov. 27 through the end of the year.
Rippe said the number of people allowed to attend will be limited and they must reserve their visits online.
This year's Holiday Magic light show will be 10 nights longer than usual.
