(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An alderman from Chicago's Northwest Side is leading the call for a public hearing to look into delays and other service issues on the CTA.

35th Ward Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa says CTA service has declined significantly since the start of the COVID pandemic.

“My office has received consistent complaints,” he tells WBBM Newsradio. “In speaking with other aldermen and doing some research, it became evident that it was time for the Chicago City Council to hold a hearing on what’s happening with the CTA.”

He says at least 33 other alderman have joined his call for CTA leaders to appear at a City Council hearing.

In a written response, the CTA blames staffing shortages for delays and other problems. The statement also claims the CTA has been open with aldermen and riders about service issues and how the CTA is working to resolve them.
