EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - All schools and daycare centers in Evanston were asked to go on soft lockdown as police searched for an emotionally disturbed person.

For nearly two hours, beginning at 12:30 p.m., the advisory was in place. At around 2:20 p.m., the suggestion remained for only four schools-Lincoln, Park, Nichols, Chiaravelle-.

Evanston police first alerted the public at about 11:40 a.m. that officers were in the area of Michigan and Main, investigating an incident involving a possibly disturbed individual. Evanston/Skokie Community Consolidated School District 65 initially placed Lincoln School on soft lockdown.

Police stressed no threats had been directed at any of the schools and that the measure is in place as a precaution. There is no immediate threat to the public, police added.

With an increased police presence, the investigation remains ongoing. There is no active shooter, police said, no injuries have been reported nor have any shots been fired.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WBBM Newsradio for the latest information.
