CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Indiana state troopers were investigating a crash on Interstate 65 near Crown Point just before 7 a.m. Sunday morning.
A jackknifed semi was blocking all northbound lanes and a Hoosier Helper was guiding traffic.
Officials said a 2018 Jeep swerved around the emergency vehicle and drove into the far-right lane.
The Jeep then swerved back to the far-left lane before swerving again and striking a fully-marked Indiana state trooper vehicle.
The trooper had been standing outside the 2021 Dodge Charger and ran into a ditch to avoid being hit.
The driver, 30-year-old Hakeem A. Bahhur from California, was taken into custody where a judge ordered a blood draw.
Bahhur became physically combative with the jail staff and is currently charged with operating while intoxicated.
