Ambulances aren't just for people. A handful in the Chicago area are for pets.
One of them is run by Transpet Services in Wheaton.
Jim Kohlmann says his company specializes in dogs, especially larger breeds.
“We’ve got a 1-ton Ford stretch van that has oxygen, trauma kits, stretchers, gurneys. We’ve got a hydraulic lift on the side for the larger dogs,” he said Wednesday.
Transpet takes animals to several veterinary clinics and animal hospitals in the Chicago area.
It also will transport animals with severe medical issues to specialists as far away as the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
