(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A local animal welfare group is putting the call out for loving homes for dozens of birds that were rescued earlier this summer.
Julia Magnus, of the group Chicago Roo Crew, said Chicago animal control officials took 48 birds from an abusive situation in June. Since then, her group has been helping to coordinate foster care for the animals, which include roosters, and ultimately find them forever homes.
The Roo Crew also has launched a Go Fund Me page to help raise thousands of dollars needed for the birds’ medical care.
Magnus says roosters generally get a bad rap as loud and aggressive.
“A rooster is no louder than a dog,” she tells WBBM Newsradio.
The plight of the birds was reported earlier by Block Club Chicago.
