CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Archdiocese of Chicago announced Wednesday new church consolidations for the Northwest Side and north suburbs.

At this point, the Archdiocese of Chicago is not announcing any closings of churches.

In the northern suburbs, St. Isaac Jogues in Niles and St. Martha in Morton Grove will unite to form a new parish, with a new name that will be determined later, at two worship sites. Both churches will continue to have a regular schedule of Masses, which may differ from their current schedule. The Shrine of All Saints at St. Martha will continue to operate as an important ministry.

In Skokie, St. Peter and St. Lambert will unite to form a new parish, with a new name that will be determined later, at two worship sites. Both churches will continue to have a regular schedule of Masses, which may differ from their current schedule.

News will come later regarding the assigned pastors. The united parishes will evaluate how to sell or lease their auxiliary properties. St. John Brebeuf Parish and School will continue in their current structures.

Meanwhile in Chicago, in the Logan Square and Avondale neighborhoods, St. Sylvester and Our Lady of Grace will unite as a new parish with a new name that will be determined later, with two worship sites. Both churches will continue to have a regular schedule of Masses, which may differ from their current schedule.

Our Lady of Grace School and St. Sylvester School will continue to operate under their current programs.

St. Hyacinth Basilica will remain in its current structure and continue under the leadership of the Resurrectionist Fathers.

All changes go into effect July 1.

The merger is the latest under the archdiocese’s “Renew My Church” initiative, which has focused on churches with shrinking congregations and school enrollments among its 97 parish groupings.
