CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new northwest suburban library has more than just books and research materials.

Makerspace, the new library in Arlington Heights, has 3D printers, laser cutters and a commercial-grade kitchen, making 8,000-square-foot space unique among public libraries, according to library officials.

It is the highlight of the $1.4 million library on Belmont Avenue that replaces the village's first standalone library that was built in 1952.

Makerspace had its grand opening over the weekend and an Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce ribbon-tying event is scheduled for Wednesday.

Appointments are not required but people will be able to make an appointment on the library website in the not-too-distant future.
