(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The National Museum of Mexican Art is expanding its arts education program with the help from a financial institution.

The $500,000 donation from BMO is a part of the museum's campaign “Arte for All.”

Museum founder and president Carlos Tortolero said the effort includes increasing access to Mexican art, especially in underserved communities.

"We're about trying to use the arts as a way to bring people together and have them share common experiences,” he said.

Tortolero said the donation will also support the museum's goal of educating students by allowing the museum to expand its arts education studio.

"We want young people to be exposed to the arts. We want young people to grow up with the attitude, ‘I can be an artist, I can be a singer.’ It's important to us.”
