CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police said the 1100 block of South Clark Street, just north of West Roosevelt Road, has seen at least five department store robberies over the past week.
In several of the incidents, police said the offender became aggressive and physical when confronted, and that he pointed an unknown object at victims before running off.
Authorities said the man wanted in the South Loop robberies is also being sought in a recent case near State and Madison Streets.
Meanwhile, Chicago police promised more foot and bike patrols downtown and pledged to make the holiday season safe for shoppers.
Police said shop owners should make sure their business has a working video surveillance system, as well as a hold up alarm.
Area Three detectives are investigating the robberies.
